Namaste, I am Sudhir Gadre. I welcome you to the website abcayurveda.com. Although I am an engineer, I have now become a Wellness Volunteer. I was blessed (sic) with delicate health in my early years. So, I regularly suffered from some minor ailments. I also faced some serious health issues at different stages of life, important among them being- chronic Colitis (@) and a suspected third attack of Jaundice(*).

2. “Necessity is the mother of Invention.” So, I kept searching for ways to improve my health. I collected a lot of information in my effort to become health-literate. I also met many senior Doctors of Allopathy and Ayurveda. I did get hints and practical advice from them which were invaluable. I realised that Ayurveda is a holistic science. The objective of Ayurveda is “Maintenance of health of the healthy and cure of disease in a patient.” Ayurveda aims to achieve a balance in the Doshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha; which are the regulatory forces in the body.

3. Assessment of one’s Constitution (body type) is an important tool provided by Ayurveda. It takes into account the distinctly identifiable physical, physiological and psychological characteristics of a person. From the result of the assessment of Constitution, it is possible to carry out a S W O T analysis. It highlights inherent Strengths and Weaknesses of a person, from health point of view. Ayurveda also suggests ways, that is, Opportunities, to take care of likely Threats, posed by one’s lifestyle, diet, inherited diseases, lack of exercise, seasonal weather changes, mental tensions, etc. Assessment of one’s Constitution, Wisdom of Ayurveda, coupled with periodical Health Check-ups, research in Modern Science and one’s own positive action enables a person to achieve his wellness goals.

4. When I was young, I suffered from Chronic Colitis. I sought advice of VaidyaRaj Balasaheb Lavagankar, a senior Ayurvedic Consultant. He categorically advised that physical exercise was the only remedy for me. Similarly, Dr. H.V. Sardesai, a respected senior physician, well known Author and a prolific speaker, put forward his observation, based on 40 years of his medical practice; that “People fall sick because of ignorance - they lack knowledge of basics of working of human body and measures to be taken to maintain health.” He stressed the need to understand principles of keeping good health in simple language through books and lectures.
Such valuable advice from many experts, including the observation of Dr. H.V. Sardesai, sowed the seeds of sharing with common man, the basic principles and requirements of attaining and maintaining good health. I found it appropriate to introduce an objective questionnaire so that a visitor knows his Constitution. The website also contains articles explaining causes, symptoms, recommendations for diet, simple remedies, tests and preventive measures for common diseases. I found it appropriate to present material in the form of a blog supported by audios and videos where possible. I preferred to present the material in the mother tongue of the visitor so that it is easily understood.

5. I am indebted to the Doctors and Ayurvedic Practitioners who guided me throughout my journey of acquiring the necessary knowledge, and subsequently presenting it in the form of this website. I am indebted to my late wife Pratibha. Without her support and fifty years long active participation, I wouldn’t have been able to launch this website. I am also grateful to all the members of my family who encouraged me in the process of creation of this website.
I sometimes wonder whether God chose me and designed my journey of life such that I could gather the necessary wherewithal to be able to launch this website. Through this website, I politely offer my services to Society by putting the information on health and Ayurveda in simple language. I humbly dedicate this website to my parents, Aai and Baba (Mandakini and Visubhau Gadre) and Dhanvantari, the God of Ayurveda.
Good Luck.

Sudhir Gadre.
29-10-2024, Dhanvantari Jayanti.
